------

Reviews on the AFG 3.1 AE elliptical are outstanding because this trainer gives you the best of everything: a hefty 23-lb flywheel, a large drive pulley ratio, a long 20" stride length, and a power incline. The 20 levels of quiet magnetic brake resistance are in .5% increments.

The patented SixStar Certification on the frame includes six key features for ergonomic comfort: a ZeroGap™ overlapping pedal motion, low SUREstep™ step-on pedal height, StraightUP™ body posture design, the 20" FLATellipse™ foot path to provide a more natural foot path, IDEALfit™ optimal handlebar spacing, and a large SMOOTHpulley™ ratio which increases the angular momentum of the elliptical.

Other features of the AFG 3.1 AE include a dynamic built-in speaker system for your iPod or MP3 player that plugs into a convenient dock, a wireless receiver and heart rate chest strap transmitter (included), a 325-lb user weight capacity, and the exclusive proFILE™ performance tracking technology which enables up to 2 users to monitor workout statistics.

Our Thoughts on the AFG 3.1 AE Trainer

Johnson Fitness, the parent company for the AFG 3.1 AE, also has the Horizon, Livestrong, and Vision brands in its stable. This is important because many of the same features found on Horizon and Livestrong elliptical trainers are found on these AFGs.

The console may be a bit different but the SixStar Certification frames, components, programs, and warranties are the same, no matter which brand you buy.

The 3.1AE has a 23-lb flywheel which is the same as one of our favorites, the Livestrong LS10e model, and both are priced at $999. The only difference is cosmetic; the LS frames are painted black and yellow, and the AEs are black and gray.

The AFG 3.1 AE elliptical rates a Best Buy since it is almost the same as an LS10e, just in a different color.
