Should You Consider the BodyCraft ECT-2100 Elliptical Crosstrainer?

The BodyCraft ECT-2100 elliptical crosstrainer is a respectable entry into the elliptical trainer market from a company primarily known for developing weight lifting equipment. The BodyCraft ECT-2100 is for the mid-level market and retails for around $1000.

What You Get

Bodycraft ECT-2100 Elliptical Crosstrainer

While you aren’t getting an overload on extras, all of the basics of a good workout are present with the BodyCraft ECT-2100 elliptical trainer. There are, however, a few limitations you should keep in mind when comparison shopping. Features you get on this crosstrainer include:

  • Synched upper body workout
  • Eddy current braking system
  • LED dot matrix display console
  • Front end wheels for portability
  • Heavy, covered rear flywheel
  • Adjustable pedals
  • Adjustable stride
  • Hand grip pulse monitor
  • Warranty: Lifetime frame, 3 yrs. parts, 1 yr. labor

It’s a decent warranty, but there are some areas that are lacking with the BodyCraft that some people will miss, including the lack of a wireless heart monitor and adjustable incline.

The Word on the Street

UPDATE:  BodyCraft is no longer making elliptical machines.  Take a look at NordicTrack for comparable models.

There isn’t a lot of feedback from fitness experts about the BodyCraft ECT-2100 elliptical crosstrainer, probably because this isn’t a brand that’s created a lot of awareness yet.

Trainers tend to stick with the big names that have been established for a long time. Those that have tried this elliptical machine out criticize the stride length. Although it is touted as adjustable, they don’t feel moving it from 14” to 16” qualifies as truly versatile.

Consumers feel that the BodyCraft ECT-2100 is a decent $1,000 machine, but don’t rave about it. They note that it’s easier to move than some models and like the adjustable end-caps, which help in leveling the machine for a smoother ride.

Our Thoughts

For the price, the BodyCraft ECT-2100 elliptical crosstrainer is acceptable, but there are other models that give you more for the same amount of money.

The sticking point for us was the stride length. With the maximum 16” stride, the elliptical motion still felt choppy and a bit too short for taller individuals. Shop around a bit and check out the Schwinn 418 or the Spirit ZE50 for about the same price.
