The Smooth CE Plus Elliptical – Built and Designed in Germany

The Smooth CE Plus elliptical is an import from Germany, part of the well respected line of Kettler elliptical trainers. Kettler is an enormous company that sells excellent products and this top-of-the-line Smooth model includes a Siemens VGA and LCD Display in high resolution.

What You Get

(This model has been discontinued)

The Smooth CE Plus elliptical is an upgrade of the original Smooth CE model with the most significant difference being the improved stride length (19" over 16"). The extensive training programs allow for input of individual profiles, plus pulse directed training, fat burning and fitness zone training. Other features of the Smooth CE Plus include:

Smooth CE Plus Elliptical Trainer
  • 48 Personal trainer workouts
  • 75 levels of resistance
  • Heart rate monitor on handlebars
  • Wireless Polar chest belt
  • 50-lb flywheel
  • Forward/reverse motion
  • USB interface for training software and exchangeable pre-set programs
  • Transport wheels
  • Floor level adjustment
  • 330 lbs max. user weight
  • Lifetime frame, lifetime braking system, 5 years parts, 1 year labor

The Word on the Street

Experts like to point out some of the improvements the Smooth CE Plus elliptical has over the original CE model. The most important one is the longer stride at 19", and the display is much easier to read. The elliptical trainer’s LCD console made by Siemens is larger than on the older CE and it’s nicely backlit. Some of the other nice features of the Smooth CE Plus include the sealed ball bearings, foot pedals mounted on rollers sliding in the rails, huge 50-lb flywheel, and a USB interface for interactive software training.

Consumers who own the Smooth CE Plus like that it mimics the same balance and quality found in an expensive club elliptical trainer. Not only is the Smooth CE Plus cross trainer quiet and sturdy, the advanced features such as the adjustable footplates help prevent numbness in the feet (a problem with many residential elliptical designs), and the levels of electro-magnetic resistance at increments of 5 watts from 25 to 400 Watts can be increased and decreased easily as you exercise.

Our Thoughts

The Smooth CE Plus is a great feeling elliptical trainer that glides effortlessly. We love the bright console, the ergonomics, the quality, the design - everything about it! The downside to this machine is the $2799 MSRP price tag, but if you can find it on sale for under $2300, it’s a good buy. If you have trouble finding this model at this price, take a look at the Smooth CE 7.4 model which is less expensive than the Smooth CE Plus elliptical but still offers the same consistent quality.
